Dudok Quartet of Amsterdam
Judith van Driel, Marleen Webster, Marie-Louise de Jong & David Faber
Part of
Aberdeen Chamber Music Concerts
This Dutch string quartet was founded in 2009, naming itself after a Dutch architect Willem Dudok, who felt that he owed more to composers than to any architectural artists, who had common ground in both deriving their value from correct proportions.
The original members studied individually at the conservatories in Amsterdam and The Hague and met while they took part in tours of the Ricciotti Ensemble. The quartet has won multiple awards at international music competitions and has recorded complete works for string quartet by Brahms and Tchaikovsky, with a historically inspired instrumental setup, un-wound gut strings and special bows.
