Gemma Ramsay
Gemma began her cello studies through the Aberdeen music service, receiving lessons from Hilary Cromar, before being tutored at the North East Scotland Music School under James Halsey.
In 2021-22, Gemma studied at the Junior Department of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, playing at venues such as the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and the Usher Hall in Edinburgh. She has also performed numerous solo concerts in Aberdeen at the Music Hall and Newton Dee.
In 2022, Gemma accepted an offer to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where she now studies in Cardiff under the tutelage of Alice Neary. She is also a regular participant of the Aboyne Cello Festival, where she receives lessons from cellists such as Rebecca Gilliver, Philip Higham and James Halsey.
Gemma has recently developed an interest in folk music to complement her classical studies, participating in workshops with Welsh folk band VRï at the RWCMD. She has since formed a band which has performed several gigs in Cardiff. Her favourite classical composers include Beethoven, Bach and Rachmaninoff.
