Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No2 and Tchaikovsky Symphony No.6
FANCY A NIGHT OF PASSION?
Get your tickets early for a ‘BRIEF ENCOUNTER’ with International concert pianist Murray McLachlan and Aberdeen Sinfonietta! Murray’s playing is “a perpetual delight” (BBC MUSIC MAGAZINE) and he is returning home to Aberdeen to perform Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto in an ecstatic reunion with Aberdeen Sinfonietta.
This lyrical and turbulent concerto is followed in the second half by Tchaikovsky’s 6th and final Symphony. Finished days before his sudden death, it remains one of the most romantic symphonies ever written.
Originally entitled ‘The Passionate Symphony’ by Tchaikovsky, it became “Pathétique” in translation to the French subtitle!
“I absolutely consider it to be the best, and in particular, the most sincere of all my creations. I love it as I have never loved any of my other musical offspring…”
Also returning to Aberdeen is the exuberant international conductor Garry Walker who always guarantees a scintillating night of quality music-making.
