Oxford Concert Party
They are Europe’s only Baroque and Tango Orchestra!
Take three hundred years of music from around the world, turn it upside down, infuse it with humour, energy, passion and pathos - and you have the recipe with which the Oxford Concert Party delights their audience wherever they go. Be it Vivaldi or Piazzolla, French café music or Argentinean tango, Irish laments or Jewish Klezmer, this “bunch of superb musicians” (Daily Telegraph) create a rich, colourful and expressive sound, and their vibrant virtuosity and offbeat humour make for an unforgettable performance.
The Oxford Concert Party was formed in 1992 by ARne Richards. Since then they have played in festivals all over England, toured Scotland where they have performed in Aberdeenshire with the Strathdee Music Club and the Aboyne and Deeside Festival and were voted ‘Pick of the Fringe’ at the Edinburgh Festival. They have also played in Ireland, Italy and Holland.
They have made many media appearances including Italian and Border TV, Loose Ends, Front Row and Friday Night is Music Night.
As well as playing in regular concert venues Oxford Concert Party is committed to bringing music to wherever they feel it can play a healing, humanising or educative role. Hence they have an ongoing extensive outreach programme of music in prisons, which has included concerts in prisons throughout England and Ireland and many projects in HM prisons Grendon, Whitemoor, Dartmoor and Lancaster.
They have undertaken projects in primary schools throughout the country, and several intergenerational projects in association with Age Concern as well as numerous concerts in residential homes. Oxford Concert Party is a registered charity and actively seeks funding for this work.
This event is a tribute to Rosemary Millington who was a founder of the Aboyne and Deeside Festival. You can find information about Rosemary's life in our website - AboyneandDeesideFesival.org.uk
