Piano Duets

Formed in 2024 by two students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the One Piece Duo is dedicated to exploring the breadth of the piano duet repertoire. Their performances aim to share both familiar and less frequently heard works with a wider audience.

Kian Kolahzadeh is an Aberdeen-born pianist studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. He was selected as the pianist for the NYOS Symphony 2024 and has extensive experience in solo performance, chamber music, and accompaniment. His repertoire encompasses a broad stylistic range, including modern and contemporary classical music, with a strong interest in neo-classical works, alongside jazz and improvised music.

Born in Mérida, Spain, Maria López Atanet began piano studies at the age of seven and later attended St. Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh. María has participated in masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Steven Osborne, Stephen Hough and Danny Driver and performed in several venues including Perth Concert Hall. She has extensive choral experience and has sung with the Edinburgh Studio Opera chorus for the past two years, and this year she will be making her operatic debut with Glasgow University Opera Society. In August 2025, María toured Madagascar as pianist and répétiteur for the first Malagasy opera with the Spanish NGO Ópera sin Fronteras, and continues to balance their passion for piano performance, chamber music, and vocal collaboration.
