Ed Jones

Part of St Andrew's Cathedral at Noon Recital Series
Date
-
Venue
St Andrew's Cathedral

Ed Jones originally comes from Aberdeen, and is glad to be giving this recital today. A pint bought for him in the Blue Lamp encouraged him to start playing the organ at St Margaret’s on the Gallowgate, and the dulcet tones of a counter-tenor brought him to the over-arching walls of this building to sing, play and direct.

He then moved south in search of musical pursuits but stopped temporarily in Blackburn, Exeter, Worcester and Bradford. He also worked a stint in Belfast, where he met the lovely Helen. Now he lives in Yeadon, in the Leeds Bradford Airport flight path.

He is now working for the firm Quilter, as a Financial Adviser Consultant. His area of remit encompasses most areas of financial planning, from Wealth, Mortgages, Protection, Pensions, Tax efficiency, and inheritance planning.

He continues to direct choirs and play the organ in Blackburn and Bradford cathedrals, Leeds Minster as well as other ensembles in his evenings and weekends. He continues to add another element to his multicultural accent but he is rather embarrassed to say he has failed in adhering to Yorkshire law by not liking a cup of tea.

Ed sings fairly often, mostly deputising in Ripon Cathedral, but recently performing 16th c. madrigals in Italy. Ed still composes when he finds time, usually liturgical choral music. His latest opus has been recorded by the Black Dyke Bank and Bradford Cathedral Choir – Little Donkey, which celebrates liturgically inaccurate lyrics, the octatonic scale, and 7/8 time signatures.

Besides his musical and finance life, Ed is a keen marathon runner, has a small ridiculous convertible car, and likes curry and beer.
