String Ensemble Day
The first Inverurie Music workshop of 2026 will be a String Ensemble Day with Aaron McGregor on Saturday 24 January 2026 at Kemnay Church Centre. There are places for around 20 string players (violin, viola, cello and double bass) who will come together to play for the day with expert tuition from Aaron.
The cost is £25 standard price and there is a reduced cost of £15 for those in full-time education, and for those on disability or low-income benefits.
Provisional workshop timetable:
- 09.30 arrival and set up
- 10.00 - 13.00 tutored session (including break) followed by lunch
- 13.45 - 14.45 tutored session followed by a short break
- 15.00 - 15.30 performance session and depart

About Aaron...
Aaron McGregor is a freelance violinist and Lecturer in Music at the University of Aberdeen. His performance background includes baroque and modern violin as well as Scottish traditional fiddle. He has performed with groups such as Concerto Caledonia, Scots Baroque, Dunedin Consort, Ex Cathedra, the Spinacino Consort, RSNO, Scottish Ensemble, Scottish Ballet, Manchester Camerata, the Evergreen Ensemble and Les Musiciens de Saint Julien. Aaron studied at the University of Edinburgh and the RCS, winning prizes for violin and chamber music, and leading the RCS symphony and opera orchestras as well as the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. In 2020, he completed a PhD at the University of Glasgow, his research focussing on the early history of the violin in Scotland.
