Choir Concert
Conductor: Arthur McGlashan
Arthur McGlashan is the organist and Director of Music for St Bride’s Anglican Church (Clarkson) in Mississauga, Ontario where he coordinates the Parish Music Ministry, conducts the Adult Choir and plays in the Hand Bell Choir.
Arthur started playing trumpet in the high school band before switching to the piano and eventually the organ. He has studied piano and organ with Janet Heerema, and organ with Keith Hopkins and William Maddox. Arthur also studied voice with David Holler. In addition to being an organist, Arthur has sung with The Amadeus Choir of Toronto, Chorus Niagara, Mercredi Musique and The Cathedral Singers of Ontario.
In addition to being a musician, Arthur is a CPA, working full time for Hydro One, Ontario’s largest electricity transmission and distribution company as a Senior Internal Auditor. In his spare time during the summer, you will often find Arthur indulging in his other passion - sailing.
Organist: Ian Sadler
For five years, Ian Sadler was a boy chorister at St. Paul s Cathedral, London, Eng-land. This was followed by a Music Scholarship to The King s School, Canter-bury. At age 17 he won a 3 year Organ Scholarship at Bristol University, during which time he was invited to present an organ recital at Edinburgh University in McEwan Hall. Following a Musicology degree, Ian was appointed Organ Scholar for 3 years back at St. Paul s Cathedral. His final engagement in the UK before moving to Canada was to play the organ in the movie, Chariots of Fire’’.
In 1980 Ian moved to Canada following appointments in Toronto as Organist and Director of Music at Grace Church on-the-Hill and Choral Director at Upper Canada College. He has since gone on to be Organist at St. James Cathedral, Toronto, and Organist and Director of Music at St. Paul’s Cathedral London Ontario. In 1986 he won 1st prize at the Syracuse International Organ Competition, USA. Recitals have since taken him to Denmark, Sweden, Germany, France (Notre Dame, Paris), Austria (St. Stephen s Cathedral, Vienna), Australia, the USA and the UK (St. Paul s, Winchester and Coventry Cathedrals, Westminster Abbey, King s College Chapel, Cambridge). Just prior to the pandemic outbreak, Ian gave recitals in Helsinki, Finland and Kingston, Jamaica.
Highlights of Ian's career include recitals at the launching of the organs at three Canadian concert halls - Singer Hall, Calgary, Toronto s Thomson Hall and Edmonton s Winspeare Centre, a Juno award (2001) for a CD by his Burlington Chamber Choir, the award of a Fellowship from The Royal Canadian College of Organists (2007) for the promotion of Canadian organ music, and election in 2003 to membership in Britain's oldest music charity, The Royal Society of Musicians, founded by Henry Purcell in 1738.
Catharine Sadler
Catharine Sadler received the Bachelor of Arts and Science degree from Queen's University, Kingston and the Associate in singing performance from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto. She further studied in England (1987-1989) with Emma Kirkby and Audrey Langford.
Since returning to Canada, Catharine has performed many Oratorio roles and solo recitals including concerts in Europe and North America. As soloist, Catharine can be heard on several choral CDs. She has also performed with the Hamilton Philharmonic and Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestras.
Catharine has performed the soprano soloist role in for Bach’s ‘St. Matthew Passion’ and ‘St. John Passion’, Handel’s ‘Messiah’, Mendelssohn’s ‘Elijah’, Haydn’s ‘Lord Nelson Mass’, Poulenc ‘Gloria’, Vaughan Williams ‘Dona Nobis’ and the ‘Requiems’ of Mozart, Brahms, Fauré and Rutter. She regularly performs duo concerts with Ian, including performances for children – Mr. & Mrs. Bach, Mr. & Mrs. Mozart and Peter and the Wolf with Prokofiev’s music.
In 2000 Ian and Catharine founded The Cathedral Singers of Ontario - a choir formed for the purpose of singing daily services at a Cathedral in the UK for a week each winter and summer. This past January the choir sang for a week at Westminster Abbey. This August (2025) will be the choir s 36th visit to the UK – Portsmouth and Salisbury Cathedrals.
