Soundbath
Aberdeen Jazz Festival presents another series of site-specific performances in the historic Bon Accord Baths. Closed to the public since 2008, the light-drenched, cavernous space will form an atmospheric backdrop to newly created music by Rachel Lightbody (vocals) and David Bowden (double bass). Not only a visual spectacle, the acoustics of the vast Art Deco building also create an amazing aural experience, with sound reverberating around the tiled walls and pool floor. A wonderful opportunity to step inside and immerse yourself in this hauntingly atmospheric experience.
David Bowden
Glasgow-based composer David Bowden works primarily in jazz, folk and improvised music. Described by BBC Radio 3 as ‘a gifted bass player,’ he has toured the UK and Europe extensively.
In this new venture, David unveils a stripped-down approach, opting for solo performances highlighting the lyrical and textural capabilities of the double bass.
Rachel Lightbody
Vocalist Rachel Lightbody takes inspiration from a broad range of styles and sounds, creating her genre-hopping and fluid approach to writing music. A much sought-after collaborator, Rachel has come to work with reputable names in the Scottish scene such as Mezcla and Alyn Cosker, as well as folk acts such as Siobhan Miller and Kris Drever. A stunning, clear, and ethereal voice that will leave a trace long after you've left the building.
