'Winter Beauty'
Aberdeen City Orchestra &
Tim Tricker
As the year draws in, Aberdeen City Orchestra brings a programme built for midwinter.
It opens with two works that take the carols everyone knows and reimagine them for full orchestra: Coleridge-Taylor's Christmas Overture and Hely-Hutchinson's Carol Symphony, where tunes like Adeste Fideles and the Coventry Carol are woven together with real invention.
After the interval, Edward German's 'Winter' captures the cold and stillness of the season, and Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty rounds things off with some of the most loved music he ever wrote. A fitting way to mark the shortest days of the year.
