Ming Hui Quartet
Ming Hui (Coralie Usmani) is a violinist from New Zealand and Singapore, based in Scotland. Through stories, fiddle-inspired tunes, and free-jazz-esque improvisation prompts — and with musicians Nuna Mutikani (guitar, keys), Seth Bennett (double bass), and Calum MacIntyre (percussion/drums) — sounds from these places are given space to reverberate.
She performs on a 19th-century French violin, a small viola of unknown provenance, and a hand-painted five-string AEYRA electric violin made in Banjarmasin, Indonesia — a place connected to her family ancestry.
