W.A. Mozart "Great" Mass in C Minor, F.J. Hayden "Harmoniemesse"
Aberdeen Bach Choir are delighted to have the opportunity to bring the Great Mass in C Minor, one of Mozart’s finest works, to Aberdeen Music Hall in 2025. Even in its unfinished state it is considered a masterpiece of the choral repertoire standing shoulder to shoulder with the ever popular and renowned Requiem Mass. The work was written in 1782-83, partly with his then fiancée Constanze in mind, who sang the soprano solo at its premiere in Salzburg in October 1783.
Preceding the Mozart will be Haydn’s Harmoniemesse, his last completed composition, written and first performed in 1802. The large wind section (or Harmonie) features prominently in this work, the last in the series of six masses Haydn wrote towards the end of his life.
Aberdeen Bach Choir will be joined once again by Aberdeen Sinfonietta and four top class soloists for what is expected to be a wonderful concert full of colour and light.
