Deeside Orchestra
We are an energetic amateur orchestra that meets weekly during school term times to play a variety of popular and light classical music. We welcome musicians from all over Aberdeenshire who enjoy making music in a fun and relaxed environment.
We play a broad and interesting repertoire and typically perform three concerts per year.
If you are Grade 6 and above, we’d love to hear from you. We are particularly keen to hear from Brass players.
PERFORMANCES
We normally stage three concerts a year in venues local to Aboyne and Banchory.
- Autumn (November) – typically comprises light popular classics.
- New Year (February/March) – a light-hearted evening, often incorporating singers / other performers.
- Summer (June) – traditional classical pieces, usually including a concerto with a professional soloist.
Getting involved
REHEARSALS
We meet every Tuesday evening 7:30pm – 10:00pm during term time with a tea and coffee break in the middle, which allows for a spot of socialising. We rehearse in the Victory Hall, Ballater Road, Aboyne (Link: Victory Hall, Aboyne)
MEMBERS
The orchestra has around 38 regular members, some coming from as far away as Insch, Kintore and Cults. We are a diverse group of all ages & from all walks of life.
INSTRUMENTS
Most instruments are represented, but we are always looking for new members. At present, we have vacancies for orchestral brass and violas. Players need to be at least Grade 6 with their own instruments & time to join us regularly on Tuesday evenings. There are normally no formal auditions.
FEES
Fees are presently £40 for the whole year, which is a contribution towards the hire of the rehearsal hall.
