Deeside Orchestra
We are an energetic amateur orchestra that meets weekly during school term times to play a variety of popular and light classical music. We welcome musicians from all over Aberdeenshire who enjoy making music in a fun and relaxed environment.
We play a broad and interesting repertoire and typically perform three concerts per year.
If you are Grade 6light-hearted party-themed and above, we’d love to hear from you.
PERFORMANCES
We normally stage three concerts a year in venues local to Aboyne and Banchory.
- Autumn (November) – typically comprises light popular classics.
- New Year (February/March) – a light-hearted party-themed evening.
- Summer (June) – traditional classical pieces, usually including a concerto with a professional soloist.
Getting involved
REHEARSALS
We meet every Tuesday evening 7:30pm – 9:45pm during term time with a tea and coffee break in the middle, which allows for a spot of socialising. We rehearse in the Victory Hall, Ballater Road, Aboyne (Link: Victory Hall, Aboyne)
MEMBERS
The orchestra has around 30 regular members, some coming from as far away as Insch, Kintore and Cults. We are a diverse group of all ages & from all walks of life.
INSTRUMENTS
Most instruments are represented, but we are always looking for new members. At present, we have vacancies for an oboe, a clarinet, orchestral brass and all strings sections. Players need to be at least Grade 5 with their own instruments & time to join us regularly on Tuesday evenings. There are normally no formal auditions.
FEES
Fees are presently £50 for the whole year, which is a contribution towards the hire of the rehearsal hall.
