Deeside Orchestra

Ensemble type

We are an energetic amateur orchestra that meets weekly during school term times to play a variety of popular and light classical music. We welcome musicians from all over Aberdeenshire who enjoy making music in a fun and relaxed environment.

We play a broad and interesting repertoire and typically perform three concerts per year.
If you are Grade 5 and above, we’d love to hear from you.

We normally stage three concerts a year in venues local to Aboyne and Banchory.

  • Autumn (November) – typically comprises light popular classics.
  • New Year (January/ February) – a light hearted party themed evening.
  • Summer (June) – traditional classical pieces, usually including a concerto with a professional soloist.

Getting involved

We meet every Tuesday evening 7:30pm – 9:45pm during term time with a tea and coffee break in the middle, which allows for a spot of socialising. We rehearse  in the Victory Hall, Ballater Road, Aboyne (LinkVictory Hall, Aboyne)

The orchestra has around 30 regular members, some coming from as far away as Insch, Kintore and Cults. We are a diverse group of all ages & from all walks of life.

Most instruments are represented, but we are always looking for new members. At present, we have vacancies for an oboe, a clarinet, orchestral brass and all strings sections. Players need to be at least Grade 5 with their own instruments & time to join us regularly on Tuesday evenings. There are normally no formal auditions.

Fees are presently £50 for the whole year, which is a contribution towards the hire of the rehearsal hall.

If you would like to join us, please contact Sharon (details on our website).
