Keith Jarrett's Köln Concert 50
Keith Jarrett's Köln Concert was performed on 24 January 1975 at the Cologne Opera House—legendary for its brilliance as well as the story behind it. Organised by passionate 17-year-old schoolgirl Vera Brandes, the concert very nearly didn’t happen. A poorly maintained rehearsal piano was provided instead of the Bösendorfer concert grand requested. Vera’s persistence was the only reason that Jarrett agreed to perform.
Over ten years ago, British jazz pianist Dorian Ford conceived the idea to perform the Köln Concert in Cologne, marking its exact 50th anniversary. After that performance, Ford brings the same magic to Aberdeen. Profoundly influenced by Jarrett’s genius, this anniversary tribute captures the same seamless blend of jazz improvisation and classical discipline.
