Umbrella A Cappella
Umbrella A Cappella is a community singing group for adults aged 16+. The choir prides itself on being a neuro-inclusive and accessible singing group that has a “everyone can sing ethos”. The group spreads joy through the power of music and provides people with the opportunity to form new social connections and in turn contributes to bringing people out of social isolation and promoting positive mental wellbeing among the community in Aberdeen, post pandemic.
Umbrella A Cappella has been founded by Chloe Jackson (newly registered nurse) who is neurodivergent herself. Chloe was diagnosed with dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia when she was younger, and most recently ADHD and Autism. Like many neurodivergent individuals Chloe has experienced isolation throughout her life due to being perceived as “different”, however despite not being a “proper singer” by any means Chloe has found comfort in choirs since she was at school and found that music has a power to connect people together. While attending various choirs Chloe recognised that none of the choirs she attended considered neurodivergent individual’s needs. This is why Chloe has founded this community choir which prides itself on being neuro-inclusive and having a “everyone can sing” ethos.
