Aberdeen Gaelic Choir
Aberdeen Gaelic Choir was formed in 1952 and is still going strong with an encouraging influx of new members at the start of the 2012/2013 choir year.
The Choir attracts singers from both Aberdeen and across Aberdeenshire. The nearest Gaelic choirs are in Dundee to the south and Nairn to the West.
Like all members of the Association, the choir sings, in four part harmony, a range of traditional and modern Gaelic songs, with the lovely melodies which are a feature of Scotland’s centuries-old culture.
Every year we perform at a range of events and compete in one or more provincial mods, climaxing in the Royal National Mod in October. A hat-trick of wins in the Margrat Duncan competition prompted a return to the Lovat and Tullibardine in recent years.
Rehearsals
The choir meets every Tuesday at 7.30pm in Holburn West Church which is located in Aberdeen on the corner of Great Western Road and Ashley Park Drive.
New members are always welcome. Some choir members speak Gaelic and many have an interest in the language and culture. But there is no requirement to be able to speak Gaelic or read music as word and music recordings are provided as well as tuition at practices.
Other information
The Choir is keen to share its enjoyment of Gaelic song through performance. Though Gaelic choral singing is the Choir’s prime focus, it has a number of individual members who are accomplished in both song and instrument. The Choir welcomes inquiries regarding its availability to perform.
